Description

The Congrégation de Notre-Dame, the teaching community founded in Montréal by Marguerite Bourgeoys in 1659, began teaching science in the mid-1830s. Since then its students have benefited from courses as varied as they are comprehensive in astronomy, physics, chemistry, botany, zoology and mineralogy. The booklet you are holding contains some magnificent examples of homework and assignments by students of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame. It is a tribute to their talent and the quality of the education they received. Many of these examples were displayed at the World’s Fairs in Chicago in 1893 and in Paris in 1900, and are now carefully preserved in the Congrégation’s archives.
